General Eye Care

Regular eye examinations with an optometrist are required to maintain your eye health and optimising your visual performance. It is also recommended to routinely review your glasses and contact lens prescription, especially if you are not seeing as well you used to.

A routine exam at Melbourne Eyecare involves measuring your vision and visual function, including your spectacle/contact lens prescription, and assessing the health of the eye. We tailor our exams based on your presenting concerns and your relevant medical and family history. We have access to the latest in eye imaging technology and can detect many eye conditions in their earliest stages.

We routinely screen for

  • Refractive errors (long-sightedness, short sightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia)
  • Eye focusing and eye co-ordination disorders
  • Digital eye strain
  • Dry eye disease
  • Eye diseases including cataract, glaucoma, and macular degeneration

At the end of the exam, the optometrist will explain your results and provide an individualised management plan, including advice on when you should return for your next check.

The management plan may include a prescription for spectacles and/or contact lenses. Our dispensers will help you choose from a wide range of frames and select the most appropriate spectacle lenses for your visual needs.
